Another win for Asis Sethi's

'A Bloody Mess'

an inspirational and powerful film on normalizing menstruation.

Ace filmmaker Asis Sethi's short film 'A Bloody Mess' which wants to normalize conversations surrounding menstruation, is winning many awards around the world. This time it has been awarded 'Excellence in Filmmaking' at the International Filmmaker Festival of New York. Before this, 'A Bloody Mess' won the prestigious REMI Award at the 53rd WorldFest - Houston International Film Festival; an award which was given to the giants of the film industry, including Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee, the Coen Brothers, and many more. As the list of awards continues to grow, Asis has the vision to bring even more films to our screens in the next year.

As a South Asian Canadian filmmaker, Asis Sethi has longed to watch films that normalize conversations surrounding otherwise taboo or sensitive topics, and with that in mind, she set out to make her film “A Bloody Mess”. Produced by Fly Away Films Inc. and Think Brown Media, this short film brings to light Asis’s vision of getting the story across of the kind of angst a teenager can go through when she is constantly bombarded with traditional practices that disable her from voicing a plain and simple fact – that she is on her period. The film stars Maria Crystal Melo, Annie Koshy, and Devanshu Narang in lead roles.

Maria Crystal Melo plays the role of Varsha, a young South Asian girl who battles against her family’s traditional beliefs surrounding menstruation, which comes with rules prohibiting her from having an open dialogue with her father about periods. Since she was a child, Varsha has been told that while periods are normal, there are certain things she cannot do while menstruating, engaging her in an internal struggle as she tries to strike a balance between respecting her family and her own individual autonomy.

Asis Sethi has previously directed, written, and produced many independent projects including “The Colourful Crown”, a documentary film based on the effects of 9/11 on turban wearers in Canada, which was screened at film festivals and aired on OMNI Television nationally. Her sixteen-episode docu-series “Darshan Dekh Jeevan” has also aired nationally on OMNI Television for five years. She made a recent video with her team at FlyAway Films Inc., consisting of the wonderful women she works with, Armin Sethi, Daisy Kaur, Shwayta Sharma, Amreen Ghouse, and the talented Kamraan Mohamed. The video, called “Future Superheroes” sheds light on the importance of giving back to the world and nature through the eyes of a six-year-old girl writing a letter to her pen pal in a carehome.

Asis is excited to share that she is in the midst of finalizing the editing of another short film titled, Still. She is also in the development phases of two projects: a short film focusing on the post-partum journey of a new mother and a feature film project which is currently under wraps.

As she progresses in her cinematic journey as a filmmaker and storyteller, Asis hopes to continue to stand up as a voice for groups who have consistently been suppressed in society. Through her film “A Bloody Mess”, Asis has been engaging in important conversations in the community on national radio stations, television stations, and web shows about menstrual hygiene. She hopes to continue to engage in conversations in the community with her upcoming projects.

'A Bloody Mess' is screening in many countries around the world including Canada, the US, India, and Italy.

Actor/Director Preeti Sood comes out in support of Kangana Ranaut for her brave stand.

Actress Preeti Sood who had worked with Kangana Ranaut in Revolver Rani has come out in support of her. They had a great time working on Revolver Rani some time back. The film didn't get the box office on fire but was critically acclaimed.

We spoke to Preeti and here is what she has got to say, "Kangana is the iron lady of our times. She has shown how to do it on your own terms and not fear anyone even if the opposing powers look like mountains. She has humbled many and quite a few more to go.
She is the modern Indian woman, brave, strong, independent, and extremely competitive. We had a great time working in Revolver Rani.
She would share her thoughts and one could sense that this woman is different and unlike the rest. She has a pure heart and whatever she says comes straight from the bottom of her heart. The country needs to come out and support this lady. We would never have anyone like her."
We also agree with the fact that there is no one like Kangana Ranaut. She definitely is an embodiment of the modern Indian woman. We can have our reservations but the fact is that she has turned the tables.

SHANNON K PRESENTS HER NEW SONG "RUN" WITH A MESSAGE                         "BELIEVE IN YOUR DREAM & MANIFEST CONFIDENCE"

Song out now -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQXYTZ1FrTc

While Shannon already shines the tiara of fame and popularity, her younger sister Annabelle is carving her way to success and fame as a director.

Their new song "Run" which is shot in Jaipur is different. Different,  not the cliche different but different in terms of the message, the feel, and the overall aesthetic of the song.

Shannon however describes the song Run as her personal interpretation of self-confidence and dreams" I feel like in the past I had been afraid of putting my true self out there. I was told to not dream big, to try and fit in to look alike, to change my style so I can be accepted by the people. But somewhere I felt like I was cheating myself by being someone who I’m not. The song is a motivation for everyone who needs encouragement to be themselves"

Over the years Shannon has realized that her uniqueness is her diversity. She takes pride in her skin colour and conveys her ethnic roots and reveals her Indian cultural side through the song.

The lyrics and meaning are heart touching. The song is presented through the music video shot in Los Angeles and Jaipur, one of the most beautiful cities in India. Both the sisters wanted to bring out the culture and authenticity into the video.

The music video however
brings the best of two worlds together representing diversity.

It is not only the message and the locations that make the song unique, Annabelle K has directed the video,  created the entire look, and finalized the shoot idea and the location giving the song more of an Indo western aesthetic vibe.

The song seems fun and worth a watch.
