The most awaited annual inter collegiate Campus festival ‘Alegria – The Festival of Joy organised by the Pillai Group of Institutions is all set to regale the youth of India from 5th -9thFebruary 2019 at Dr. K M Vasudevan Pillai Campus. The excitement is palpable all around the Campus at the advent of one of Mumbai’s biggest youth Festivals. As its tagline suggests, it indeed is a time where everyone enjoys themselves to their fullest. In line with the festival’s theme “Cosmos”, the entire Campus will transform itself into a spectacular galaxy from space with creative artwork and installations. The inaugural function will be graced by notable Indians in the field of Space Sciences, Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO) and DRM.Samudriah, Former Deputy Director of Space Applications Center who will inspire the thousands of students present to reach for the stars.
In its 7thedition, the festival is set to surpass everyone’s expectations with an electrifying line-up of events, celebrity appearances, world famous artists and popular judges for its various events.As in the past, the festival continues to be a star studded exciting timeand is expected to witness a footfall of over 50000 students over the five days of the festival.
One of the most thrilling events awaited this year is the concert by AyushmannKhurrana, his very first in Navi Mumbai, on 6thJanuary 2019. He will set the stage rocking with his soulful singing and foot tapping music. Another exciting event during this festival is the gig by comic sensation Zakir Khan, known for hisamazing sense of humour and wit, on 8th of February 2019 which is sure to leave the audiences roaring with laughter.
The events and competitions in this edition of Alegriarange from creative competitions, innovative workshops, music and dance, sports and fitness and many fun events. The many exciting events taking place include competitions such as ‘DJ Wars’, ‘Face of Alegria’, ‘Group Dance’, ‘Mr. and Ms. Alegria’, ‘MuscleMania’ and many more.
Celebrity judges and appearances include International Dancer Lauren Gottlieb, noted BollywoodactorsWarinaHussain, Jim Sarbh and Shraddha Das, DJ Shaan, Cricketer Surya Kumar Yadav, bodybuilders SangaramChougule and Manoj Patil, fitness expert Olly Esse, comedian Prashasti Singh and many more. Along with this, students can also look forward to some enriching workshops and technical events, giving them an opportunity to learn and excel in something new such as rifle shooting, archery,hackathon, theatre workshops, and calligraphy among others.
Alegria is known for its hugely popular DJ events and this year the line-up includes world #68 DJ Mariana Bo who will be gracing the festival all the way from Mexico and one of India’s favourite dance music acts, Progressive Brothers on the 9th of February.
Prior to the festival, on 2nd February 2019, as a part of Community Service Day, over 780 residents of twenty two NGO’s were invited to the Dr. K M Vasudevan Pillai Campus and a day long activity was organized for them including lunch, games, music and dance and fun activities.
Dr. Daphne Pillai, Joint Secretary of Mahatma Education Society and Rector of the Campus, says “The aim of this festival is to provide the youth a wonderful platform to exhibit their creativity and extraordinary talents.”
