Commerce Secretary Shri Sunil Barthwal Engages with International Delegates, and the GJEPC board at IIJS Premiere, World’s second-largest Gem and jewellery trade fair in Mumbai

Shri Sunil Barthwal, Commerce Secretary, Department of Commerce, visited IIJS Premiere on 6th August at JWCC and NESCO, where he engaged in discussions with international delegations from several countries as well as the GJEPC Committee of Administration (CoA). The Secretary met with more than 150 international delegates attending IIJS Premiere 2023 with the aim of addressing trade challenges, exploring collaborative opportunities, and paving the way for enhanced exports. A few of the countries represented were Turkey, Iran, Nigeria, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. The meeting over lunch with the Council’s CoA touched upon issues such as Export Data Processing and Monitoring System (EDPMS), Duty Drawback, Duty Rationalization with neighbouring countries, Skill Development, Lab-grown Diamonds, Trade Shows and more.

Speaking exclusively at the show Shri Barthwal said, “IIJS is one of the largest exhibitions of gems and jewellery in the world, and we can take pride in what we are doing. This is a very important sector for the Government because it is highly labour-intensive. It generates a huge amount of creativity among our youth and it is linked to not only the people who are cutting and polishing but also designing jewellery. So I think this is one of the most versatile industries and it’s very important for us. As the Government, we’re looking at the whole value chain of gems & jewellery, right from mining to the final selling. In particular, we’re looking to develop the studded diamond jewellery segment which is at the higher value end.”

Shri Barthwal further added: "We take pride in the fact that India brings value addition to the diverse constituents of the global gem & jewellery industry. Our policies are allied not only to the people who are cutting & polishing diamonds but also those who are bullion traders or designing the jewellery; crafting jewellery and allied industries; the manufacturers and wholesalers in the chain; and those retailers who are selling it to the customer. We want to position India as a hub for training & educating the consumers & trade constituents across the whole value chain."

Commerce Secretary’s visit has inspired all the trade constituents, especially the MSME jewellers who have participated wholeheartedly in IIJS Premiere 2023. The government has undertaken progressive reforms and several initiatives to boost exports while recognizing the labour-intensive nature of the gem & jewellery sector.  We are grateful to the Union Ministry for its continued support and cooperation with respect to policies on the domestic and international front.”

 सांस्कृतिक कार्य मंत्री सुधीर मुनगंटीवार यांच्या हस्ते झाले द साऊंड ऑन व्हील्स या मोबाईल म्यूजिक स्कुलचे उद्घाटन मुंबईतील लहान मुलांसाठी आगळ्या वेगळ्या संगीत विद्यालयाचे झाले उद्घाटन.

मुंबई द साऊंड स्पेस ऑन व्हील्स या एका आगळ्या वेगळ्या संगीत विद्यालयाचे उद्घाटन सांस्कृतिक कार्ये मंत्री सुधिरु मुनगंटीवार यांच्या हस्ते पार पडले. द साउंड स्पेसने चाकांवर एक प्रकारचा संगीत वर्ग सुरू केला. या उपक्रमाद्वारे कमी उत्पन्न असलेल्या पार्श्वभूमीतील मुलांना संगीत शिक्षण देण्यासाठी संपूर्ण सुसज्ज संगीत क्लासरूम ऑन व्हील विविध ठिकाणी फिरेल.  उच्च शिक्षित संगीत शिक्षक मुलांना मार्गदर्शन करतील आणि विशिष्ट सानुकूलित अभ्यासक्रमाचे पालन करतील. या सत्रांद्वारे, मुले त्यांच्या भाषेतील कौशल्ये, सर्जनशीलता, सामाजिक भावनिक कौशल्ये, संवाद कौशल्यांसह त्यांच्या संगीत कौशल्यांचा विकास करण्यासाठी ही मदत होईल.

द साऊंड ऑन व्हील्स उपक्रमाच्या उद्घाटनप्रसंगी सांस्कृतिक कार्ये मंत्री सुधीर मुनगंटीवार यांनी या उपक्रमास शुभेच्छा दिल्या व भविष्यात असे विविध स्किल बेस्ड उपक्रम राबविण्यास महाराष्ट्र सरकार कायम प्रोत्साहन देईल असे आश्वासन दिले. 

यावेळी भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत समुदायातील गायक आणि प्रसिद्ध नाव श्री हरेंद्र खुराना हे देखील उपस्थित होते.

द साउंड स्पेस ऑन व्हील्स’ बस संपूर्ण मुंबईत राहणाऱ्या मुलांसाठी संगीतमय जगतिक दर्जाचे संगीत शिक्षण खुले होईल. ही बस मुंबईभोवती वेगवेगळ्या ठिकाणी फिरेल जिथे मुले 30 मिनिटांसाठी प्रवेश करू शकतात आणि आमच्यासोबत संगीताचे जग शोधू शकतात. सुमारे 20 मुलांसह हे संगीत वर्ग आयोजित करण्यासाठी एक प्रशिक्षित संगीत शिक्षक आणि स्वयंसेवक उपस्थित राहतील. आम्ही या बसमध्ये विविध वाद्ये, आणि इतर उपकरणांचा पुरवठा करू जे मुलांना वर्गादरम्यान हाताळता येतील. 30 मिनिटे पूर्ण झाल्यावर, बस वेगळ्या ठिकाणी जाईल आणि पुढील वर्गासाठी तेथे थांबेल.

Navi Mumbai, 3 August 2023: On the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day, Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai (AHNM), a leading multi-specialty quaternary care hospital, today unveiled a unique wall of remembrance to honor deceased organ donors who have given the gift of life to patients with end-stage organ disease. The hospital paid tribute to the deceased donors and felicitated their families. The event was graced by Chief Guests, Shri Rajesh Narvekar, Commissioner, NMMC, and Shri Milind Bharambe, Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai.

Mr. Santosh Marathe, Regional CEO – Western Region, Apollo Hospitals said, “AHNM runs a very active transplant program covering liver, kidney and heart transplants. 20% of the cases undertaken at AHNM as of date are from deceased organ donation. The Wall of Remembrance in memory of the deceased organ donors will not only honor their generous act but also encourage people to volunteer for organ donation. The Wall is a testament to the courage and benevolence of the families of these donors who had a catastrophic and irreversible brain injury leading to brain death. It is a difficult decision for the family to donate the organs of their loved ones and we are grateful that they made the noble choice of giving the gift of life. One donor can save the life of up to 8 patients. Supporting this cause at every step, I am happy and proud to announce that more than 137 staff from our hospital have pledged to donate their organs. We hope that the Wall of Remembrance will motivate more individuals and families to pledge to donate organs after death and spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.”
