Known for her versatility and her diverse choice of roles, Kirti Kulhari made her Bollywood debut with the iconic family entertainer Khichdi as Punjabi Kudi Parminder. Parminder’s character garnered tremendous critical and fan acclaim and the actress elated the enthusiasm of her fans by being a part of Khichdi 2. Recently the makers dropped the song, Vande Rakha from the film showcasing JD Majethia and Kirti Kulhari’s sparkling chemistry.

Speaking about her experience reuniting with JD and shooting the song in Switzerland Kirti said, “ When I heard Vande Rakha for the first time I fell in love in love with it the quirkiness of the song instantly, it sounded like such a cool song to dance on and as it is choreographed by Ganesh Acharya it just felt perfect. I feel everything about the song worked out so beautifully and the dance steps are so quirky and fun. I had almost forgotten that JD is such a great dancer till I was reminded of it, day in and day out during the rehearsals of Vand Rakha and Nach Nach (she says jokingly)."

She added, “ JD is an absolute sweetheart and I always pull his leg and he welcomes it sportingly, which I really appreciate about him. It was a crazy shoot in Switzerland with dancers and with Ganesh Ji, a Bollywood song in that extremely cold weather is something I feel Bollywood lives for the taste of. I don't usually do dance numbers hence it was really exciting and thrilling for me as I got to do something I usually don't and my fans got to see me in a completely different avatar I think I just love what we've managed to achieve with the song and I hope people really resonate with it and have their own fun with it.”

In the film, Kirti Kulhari plays the role of JD Majhetia's love interest and is all set to surprise the audience with her comic presence on the silver screen. On the work front, Kirti announced her international debut with ‘Sach is Life’ and will be seen next in ‘Khichdi 2 - Mission Paanthukistan' which is all set to hit theatres on November 17th, 2023.

In a world once dominated by TV and movies, a transformation quietly began. The rise of OTT platforms and web series was just the beginning. Soon, a tidal wave of audio series swept in, allowing people to break free from screens and immerse themselves in captivating stories through sound alone. Audio, an age-old entertainment companion, found a dazzling new identity as a medium for engaging storytelling.

But this shift wasn't limited to entertainment alone. It created a fresh realm of job opportunities, paving the way for individuals like Piyali Kar. With a background in the General Entertainment Channel (GEC) sector, working alongside industry giants like Colors and Voot as a Creative Producer for over five years, Piyali took a remarkable leap of faith. She embarked on a journey of writing with Pocket FM, a global audio series platform leading the charge in reshaping the entertainment landscape through audio narratives.

Opening up about her big shift, Piyali shared, "In 2019, I made a big move to Himachal Pradesh. The move was mainly because I had a deep interest in travel and creating unique travel experiences. I realized that the hectic life in Bombay wasn't what I wanted for the long run. I wasn't aiming to buy a house there or climb the corporate ladder. Writing has always been a part of me since my teenage years. I used to read poetry and write, typical teenage stuff. But as my career took off, writing took a back seat. Creative producing is more about managing creativity, not actually doing the writing itself. So, I initially explored freelance travel writing, but it wasn't providing the long-term stability I was looking for."

She continued, "Later one of my former colleagues who had joined Pocket FM, introduced me to the platform and offered me an opportunity to write full-time. We had collaborated on different projects before, and he knew it was something I had been wanting to do. So, it all started with the desire to give it a try. I had many doubts because, despite my technical writing background, transitioning to long-format writing was a bit intimidating. Writing 2,000 to 2,400 words every day was a challenge. Long-format and audio writing were completely different from what I was used to. There were multiple challenges, and I often found myself thinking, 'Can I do this? Do I have what it takes?'

"Fortunately, Pocket FM was willing to take the risk. I submitted a sample episode, and they liked it. Initially, they gave me the space to gradually find my style of writing and how to manage my schedule. This was important for me because I'm also an entrepreneur, and I don't always have the flexibility to write daily. Instead of a daily goal, I work with monthly writing goals as a writer," she concluded. 

Piyali has penned two popular audio series, 'Maseeha Doctor' and 'Judwaon Ne Bana Di Jodi,' for Pocket FM. These audio series have collectively garnered over eight million listens. At present, she's in the process of creating her third show, 'Rabba Ishq Na Hove,' which is an ongoing series on Pocket FM.

Preity G Zinta - one of the most beloved and recognizable stars of Indian Cinema - is coming to Birmingham in November to mark Diwali. She will be welcomed by the Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street and both Andy and Preity are set to preside over a weekend of events on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November 2023 - in conjunction with the Consulate General of India.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Diwali is a special time for the Indian diaspora, and communities right across our region are looking forward to celebrating the Festival of Lights. From the very outset of my time as Mayor, the WMCA has worked closely with local groups and the Consulate General of India to mark this occasion in suitably grand style - with dance, special guests, and entertainment. This year, events will be spread across the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November including a star-studded gala dinner at Millennium Point with Bollywood star turned self-made businesswoman Preity Zinta and a cultural programme at Birmingham Town Hall. I look forward to seeing local people at the festivities and joining in the celebrations myself.”

Preity G Zinta’s life story has captivated audiences worldwide including across the Subcontinent, Asia & the Middle East. The winner of two Film Fare awards (India’s equivalent of the Oscars), she is perhaps most fondly remembered for her role in the legendary film ‘Veer Zara’ among many other blockbusters. Now based in LA, Preity has achieved considerable success in the world of business - becoming one of the richest self-made Indian females on the planet thanks to her investment interests, production company, and co-ownership of the PUNJAB KINGS cricket team in the IPL. About Diwali- Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains across the world. For some, it also coincides with harvest and New Year celebrations and is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

The festival usually occurs between October and November, with the date changing each year. This year Diwali takes place over five days with the main day of celebration on Monday 12 November.

The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps". Houses, shops, and public places are decorated with small oil lamps called diyas, as well as fireworks being used to add more light and excitement to the occasion.  
 
Each religion marks different historical events and stories.  
 
Hindus celebrate the return of deities Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile. They also celebrate the day Mother Goddess Durga destroyed a demon called Mahisha.  
 
Sikhs particularly celebrate the release from prison of the sixth guru Hargobind Singh in 1619. But Sikhs celebrated the festival before this date. In fact, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar, the most holy place in the Sikh world, was laid on Diwali in 1577.  
 
The founder of Jainism is Lord Mahavira. During Diwali, Jains celebrate the moment they reach a state called Moksha (nirvana, or eternal bliss).

Tangibly, the legacy of the games lives on as you walk through Birmingham New Street and view “Ozzy” the mechanical bull who was a fan favorite during the games after being introduced during the opening ceremony. However, the legacy of the games is prevalent in so many other ways, including spirit, collectiveness, and pride in our region.
 
This Diwali celebration is the perfect opportunity to extend this feel-good feeling, as the West Midlands is an openly proud region rife with diversity, we are excited to be able to bring the community together and help ignite the excitement surrounding the Festival of Lights.
