CanKids partners AIIMS Delhi for advocating patient-centered mental well-being in cancer care

Call to integrate mental health professionals into oncology teams, strengthen peer support networks, and reduce the stigma around mental health in cancer care.

Mumbai 8^th January 2025: CanKids KidsCan - The National Society for Change for Childhood Cancer in India partnered India’s premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, in advocating patient-centered cancer care, with a focus on mental health and psycho-social support services. At the National Conference on Psychotherapeutic Assessments and Interventions in Psycho-Oncology (NCPO-2025) held at AIIMS a progressive precedent was initiated to ensure that mental health and psycho-social well-being are integrated into India’s cancer care policies and practices.

 

The conference focused on recommendations to integrate mental health professionals into oncology teams, strengthen peer support networks, and reduce the stigma around mental health in cancer care. Powerful personal stories from patients and caregivers highlighted the emotional challenges of cancer treatment, while a panel of experts discussed how technology can improve care access and transform the patient experience.

 

“Patient-centered care cannot be achieved without actively engaging patients, survivors, and caregivers. “This inclusive approach aligns with the WHO framework for meaningful engagement of PWLE and will ensure that our healthcare systems remain truly patient-centered” said Sonal Sharma, Co-Founder of CanKids and parent of a childhood cancer survivor

 

A key feature of the conference was the “Raising the Patient Voice” advocacy workshop, organized in collaboration with CanKids Kidscan, attended by over 60 survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The workshop resulted in a co-created Advocacy Statement calling for the urgent integration of mental health services into cancer care policies and practices.

 

A major highlight of the conference was the keynote address by Poonam Bagai, Co-Founder & Chairman of CanKids, cancer survivor, caregiver, and patient advocate, titled “Silence to Strength: Advocating for Psychological Support and Mental Well-Being in Cancer Care.”

 

 

In her address, Poonam Bagai shared her personal cancer journey and openly spoke about her struggle with depression during treatment.

 

“Cancer doesn’t just attack your body; it can break your spirit. I experienced debilitating depression during my cancer treatment, a period of deep silence and isolation that took away my voice. But it was through that experience that I found the strength to advocate for mental health support as an essential part of cancer care,” she shared.

 

At the conference, CanKids was also honored with the Clinical Excellence Award in psycho-oncology for its significant contribution to improving cancer care at the organizational level. As the largest psychosocial service in India, with over 75 psycho-oncology clinical services across the country, CanKids offers a comprehensive, pan-India model of holistic care, addressing the mental health of patients, caregivers, and survivors. This extensive model of care is a key reason for the organization's recognition and its advocacy for its implementation across all cancer care institutions nationwide.

CanKids was founded in 2004 by cancer survivor and patient advocate Ms. Poonam Bagai under the umbrella of the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi Branch, which then spun off in June 2012 and registered as an independent National Society. CanKids enables better standards of treatment and care by partnering with Cancer centers, assessing needs and filling gaps on an ongoing basis, through funding support, providing social support staff, enhancing capacities and driving quality care, research and impact assessment. As winter’s chill embraces the nation, the season awakens a longing for warm, comforting beverages that bring a sense of coziness with every sip. To celebrate this cozy time of year, &TV artists including Aayudh Bhanushali (young Atal from Atal), Smita Sable (Dhaniya from Bheema), Yogesh Tripathi (Daroga Happu Singh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabhi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai) share their favorite winter drinks, each infused with unique flavours and memories that make the season even more special. Aayudh Bhanushali, who plays young Atal in Atal, says, “Winter reminds me of my grandmother’s special ukado, a Gujarati herbal drink made with ajwain (carom seeds), ginger, black pepper, and jaggery. Not only does it keep me warm, but it’s also a powerful immune booster. Another favourite of mine is kesar shrikhand milk. The richness of saffron combined with the creamy shrikhand creates a velvety indulgence that’s perfect for chilly nights. And of course, I can’t forget my mom’s homemade bajra kanji, a fermented pearl millet drink. It’s a winter staple for me.”

Smita Sable, who portrays Dhaniya in Bheema, adds, “For me, winter isn’t complete without masala chai, a decadent Maharashtrian blend of milk, ginger, sugar, and cardamom. It’s the perfect drink for lazy winter days. I also adore solkadhi, made with coconut milk, tangy kokum, and a hint of spices. The soothing tanginess and subtle warmth make it a perfect match for hearty winter meals. These traditional drinks aren’t just beverages; they transport me back to festive family gatherings, where laughter and love fills the air.” Yogesh Tripathi, known as Daroga Happu Singh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “My winter favorite is bajre ki raab, a wholesome drink made with pearl millet flour, jaggery, and ghee. It’s not only delicious but also packed with nutrients, bringing back memories of cold nights in my hometown. Since moving to Mumbai, I’ve developed a fondness for hot chocolate. Served with cream on top, it’s a favorite treat of mine and my kids. Sharing these moments with them makes every sip even more special.” 

Shubhangi Atre, the beloved Angoori Bhabhi of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, says, “Winter is the perfect time to blend tradition with a modern twist. My go-to is garam masala chai, a spiced tea that feels like a warm hug. Coming from Indore, I also enjoy nimbu shikanji (warm lemon and honey water) during the season; it keeps me refreshed. My daughter’s love for experimenting introduced me to mulled pumpkin spice latte, which has become a family favourite for cozy evenings. To add an Indori touch to winter nights, I prepare warm dry fruit milk—a nutty delight that combines tradition with indulgence.”

अखिल भारतीय मराठी नाट्य परिषदेच्या सहयोगाने स्वामीराज प्रकाशन आयोजित एकल नाट्य महोत्सवाचे उद्घाटन आमदार महेश सावंत यांच्या हस्ते झाले. यावेळी सोबत नाट्य परिषदेचे प्रमुख कार्यवाह अजित भुरे, कवी व प्राध्यापक अशोक बागवे, दिग्दर्शक मंगेश सातपुते, महोत्सवाचे सूत्रधार सुधीर चित्ते आणि स्वामीराज प्रकाशनाचे रजनीश राणे उपस्थित होते. यावेळी प्रा.अशोक बागवे यांच्या 'नाटयस्वधर्म' आणि अजितेम जोशी यांच्या 'स्मरण रंग' या पुस्तकांचे प्रकाशन करण्यात आले.‌

अभिनेत्री पर्ण पेठे आता ‘जिलबी’ चित्रपटात एका वेगळ्या व्यक्तिरेखेत दिसणार आहे.

मालिका, नाटक चित्रपटांतून घराघरांत पोहचलेली अभिनेत्री पर्ण पेठे आता ‘जिलबी’ चित्रपटात एका वेगळ्या व्यक्तिरेखेत  दिसणार आहे. पर्णने  आजवर साकारलेल्या व्यक्तिरेखांपेक्षा ‘जिलबी’ चित्रपटातील रुबीना ही  मुस्लिम  मुलीची भूमिका खूपच वेगळी आहे. रुबिना अत्यंत कणखर आणि धाडसी मुलगी आहे. आनंद पंडित मोशन पिक्चर्स निर्मित ‘जिलबी’ चित्रपट १७ जानेवारीला आपल्या भेटीला  येणार आहे. चित्रपटाचे दिग्दर्शन नितीन कांबळे यांनी  केले  आहे.

अभिनेता स्वप्नील जोशी, प्रसाद ओक, शिवानी सुर्वे गणेश यादव, प्रणव रावराणे, अश्विनी चावरे, प्रियांका भट्टाचार्य या  कलाकारांच्या भूमिका ‘जिलबी’ चित्रपटात आहेत. या भूमिकेसाठी तिचा लूक वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण आहे. आपल्या या भूमिकेबद्दल बोलताना पर्ण सांगते, ‘मी खूप काही ठरवून असं करत नाही. कथेमध्ये, भूमिकेत काही वेगळेपण असेल, तर ते करायला आवडतं’. चांगल्या विषयामुळे मी या चित्रपटाला होकार दिला. माझ्या वेगवेगळ्या भूमिकांना प्रेक्षकांनी चांगला प्रतिसाद दिला असून ‘जिलबी’ चित्रपटातील माझ्या या भूमिकेचं प्रेक्षक नक्कीच स्वागत करतील, असा विश्वास पर्ण व्यक्त करते. इतर जॉनरच्या चित्रपटांच्या तुलनेत मराठीमध्ये सस्पेन्स थ्रीलरपटांची संख्या फार कमी असून, ‘जिलबी’ हा चित्रपट त्यांची उणीव नक्की भरून काढणारा असेल, असे पर्ण  सांगते. 

‘जिलबी’ चित्रपटाची कथा-पटकथा-संवाद मच्छिंद्र बुगडे यांचे आहेत. आनंद पंडित आणि रूपा पंडित हे निर्माते आहेत. क्रिएटिव्ह दिग्दर्शन आणि सहनिर्मितीची जबाबदारी राहुल व्ही. दुबे यांनी सांभाळली आहे. छायांकन गणेश उतेकर तर कलादिग्दर्शन कौशल सिंग यांचे आहे. कार्यकारी निर्माते महेश चाबुकस्वार आहेत.

आपल्या अभिनयाने आणि सौंदर्याने कायम चर्चेत राहणारी ‘बिग बॉस मराठी’ गाजवणारी अभिनेत्री मीरा जगन्नाथ आता हेमा बनून प्रेक्षकांच्या काळजाचा ठोका चुकवायला सज्ज झाली आहे. हेमाचा बोल्ड अँड  ब्युटीफुल अंदाज  आपल्याला आगामी ‘इलू इलू’ या  मराठी  चित्रपटात दिसणार आहे. मीराचं दिलखेचक पोस्टर सध्या सोशल  मीडियावर चर्चेत आहे. फाळके फिल्म्स एण्टरटेन्मेंट प्रॉडक्शन आणि अजिंक्य बापू फाळके दिग्दर्शित ‘इलू इलू’ ३१ जानेवारीला प्रदर्शित होणार आहे.

‘आजवरच्या माझ्या भूमिकांपेक्षा वेगळी भूमिका मला ‘इलू इलू’च्या निमित्ताने करायला मिळाली  याचा आनंद असून हेमा देसाई ही व्यक्तिरेखा मी स्वतः खूप एन्जॉय केली. पूर्णपणे नवं असं काहीतरी करून दाखवण्याचा माझा प्रयत्न होता. हेमा देसाई या भूमिकेच्या निमित्ताने मला ती संधी मिळाल्याचं  मीरा  सांगते.

संभाजीनगर(प्रतिनिधी) : अयोध्येतील राम मंदिराचे उद्घाटन आणि मंदिरात प्रभू श्रीरामाच्या मूर्तीच्या प्राणप्रतिष्ठेला वर्षपूर्ती होण्याच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर प्रभू श्रीरामांची महिमा सांगणारा व विचार मांडणारा ‘मिशन अयोध्या' हा चित्रपट २४ जानेवारी रोजी चित्रपटगृहात प्रदर्शित होत आहे. भारताचा इतिहास, संस्कृती आणि आध्यात्मिकतेचा अभूतपूर्व संगम असणारा आर. के. योगिनी फिल्म्स प्रॉडक्शन निर्मित आणि समीर सुर्वे दिग्दर्शित ‘मिशन अयोध्या' चित्रपटाचा ट्रेलर लॉंच सोहळा महंत रामगिरी महाराज यांच्या प्रमुख उपस्थितीत मंगळवार, ७ जानेवारी रोजी छत्रपती संभाजीनगर येथे पार पडला.

आत्तापर्यंत चित्रपटांमध्ये हिंदू धर्मातील साधुसंतांना चुकीच्या पद्धतीने चित्रित केले गेले. त्याच पद्धतीने मुस्लिम धर्मगुरु किंवा ख्रिश्चन धर्मगुरु विरोधात असे दाखवले गेले नाही. मात्र आज हिंदू धर्मातील साधुसंता बद्दल चांगले दाखविण्यात येत आहेत, असे म्हणत त्यांनी, 'मिशन अयोध्या' मराठी चित्रपटाला शुभेच्छा दिल्या. नुकताच छत्रपती संभाजीनगर शहरातील एका भव्य मॅालमध्ये 'मिशन अयोध्या' या मराठी चित्रपटाच्या ट्रेलर लॉन्चिंगच्या प्रसंगी महंत रामगिरी महाराज बोलत होते. भविष्यामध्ये यासाठीही संघर्ष करावा लागेल, असेही महाराज म्हणाले. यावेळी व्यसपिठावर आमदार अनुराधाताई चव्हाण(आमदार), चित्रपटाचे निर्माते, कृष्णा शिंदे, योगीता शिंदे, दिग्दर्शक समीर सुर्वे, विरुपाक्ष महाराज, प्रल्हाद महाराज नवल, बद्री पठाडे, सुनील जगताप, रामचंद्र नरोटे, कृष्णा पाटील उकिर्डे, पद्माकर पडूळ, राम शिंदे, मधुकर महाराज, राधाकिशन पठाडे, विवेक ढोरे, रवी करमाडकर, बाबू महाराज आदींची उपस्थिती होती.

या चित्रपटाचे निर्माते म्हणून जबाबदारी कृष्णा शिंदे आणि योगिता शिंदे यांनी सांभाळली आहे. तर कथा कृष्णा शिंदे यांची असून पटकथा आणि संवाद लेखन समीर सुर्वे यांनी केले आहे. या चित्रपटातील सर्व कलाकार आणि तंत्रज्ञांनी ट्रेलर लॉंच सोहळ्याला हजेरी लावली होती. संपूर्ण संभाजीनगर मिशन अयोध्यामय झाले होते. सर्व रस्त्यांवर पदोपदी मिशन अयोध्याचे बॅनर्स झळकत असल्याने शहरवासियांमध्ये कमालीचे कुतूहल तयार झाले आहे. या सोहळ्याला हजारोंच्या संख्येने चित्रपट रसिकांची उपस्थिती लाभली होती तसेच रामगिरी महाराज यांच्या अनुयायांनीही बहुसंख्येने गर्दी केली होती. ज्ञानोबा - तुकाराम माऊलींचा गजर करीत टाळ मृदुंगाच्या तालावर वारकऱ्यांनी हजेरी लावली होती. यावेळी उपस्थितांनी ‘जय श्री राम' नामाचाही जयघोष केला. तसेच यानिमित्ताने छत्रपती संभाजीनगर शहरातील मुख्य रस्त्यांवर आणि चौकात चित्रपटाची फलकबाजी करण्यात आली होती. तसेच महंत रामगिरी महाराज यांच्या आगमनाचे फलकही जागोजागी लावण्यात आले होते.

चित्रपटाविषयी ......

मिशन सैनिकांचे असते, मिशन अतिरेक्यांचे असते. मग मिशन एका शिक्षकाचं का नसावं? असामान्य महानायकांचा इतिहास वाचत असताना आपलंही एक पान इतिहासात असावं, ही इच्छा मनाशी बाळगून आयुष्य जगणाऱ्या एका सामान्य शिक्षकाची एक असामान्य कथा आहे. अजित देशमुख हा इतिहास विषयचा शिक्षक असूनही छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज व संभाजी महाराज यांच्या चरित्रावर व्याख्याने गाजवणारा प्रभावी वक्ता सुद्धा आहे. त्यांनी एका मिशनला पुढचे आयुष्य समर्पित  करायचे ठरवले आहे. ज्याचं नाव आहे "मिशन अयोध्या".

साधारण पाचशे वर्षाच्या एका अभूतपूर्व संघर्षानंतर भारतातील अयोध्यामध्ये सरते शेवटी श्री राम जन्मभूमी मंदिर उभारले गेले, त्या घटनेने देशमुख सर प्रभावित होतात. रामजन्मभूमी मंदिर उभारलं गेलं, पण पुढे काय? मंदिर उभारलं पण श्रीरामाच्या विचारांचं काय? असे त्यांच्यासमोर बरेच प्रश्न निर्माण होतात. त्या प्रश्नांनी स्वतः ते बेचैन होतात आणि प्रभू श्रीराम ही त्यांची अस्वस्थता बनते कारण ते ज्या छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज, संभाजी महाराजांना आपला आदर्श मानतात त्या आदर्शांचा आदर्श श्रीराम आहे. अयोध्यात निर्माण झालेले भव्य मंदिर रामराज्याची सुरुवात असायला हवी, पुढच्या पिढ्यांना आदर्श राजा रामाचा इतिहास आपण सांगायला हवा. श्रीराम हा संपूर्ण विश्वाचा आहे त्याला कोणताही धर्म, जात-जमात अपवाद नाही. श्रीराम हा कोणाच्या द्वेषाचा, तिरस्काराचा विषय नसावा. त्याला सर्वांनी स्वीकारायला हवं असं त्यांचं आदर्श चरित्र आहे आणि हा विचार सर्व समाजात पोहोचवणं, तो पुढच्या पिढ्यात रुजवणे आणि रामराज्याकडे वाटचाल करणे हेच मिशन अयोध्या आहे.अत्यंत वेगळा विषय घेऊन येत्या २४ जानेवारी २०२५ रोजी मिशन अयोध्या चित्रपटगृहात दाखल होत असून हा चित्रपट रसिकांनी चित्रपटगृहातच पहावा असे आवाहन कलावंत तंत्रज्ञानी केले आहे.
