Honoured to be a part of Chennai Singams, says Delhi fast bowler Anurag Sarshar

Honoured to be a part of Chennai Singams, says Delhi fast bowler Anurag Sarshar

ISPL is like a God-sent blessing - Sarshar

Tennis ball cricket helped fuel Anurag Sarshar’s passion for the game after an ankle injury ended the left-arm quick’s hopes of a cricket ball career when he was just 16. The 23-year-old bowler from Delhi was bought for INR 9.6 lakh by Chennai Singams for ongoing season 2 of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) which is running for 21 days started from January 26 at the Dadoji Konddev Stadium in Thane. Chennai Singams, semi-finalists last year, kickstarted their campaign with a match against Sarshar’s former team Falcon Risers Hyderabad on January 27. “I touched 130+ kmph at 16, I had natural pace, before the ankle injury,” said Sarshar, the second of three children. He took up tennis ball cricket to stay close to the game he loves and soon made a name for himself in the local circuit, playing in leading tennis ball tournaments in and around Delhi. His talent saw him get picked to participate in several other popular tournaments featuring players from across the country. Little did he know then that he would one day be a much-sought-after player in the ISPL and would rise from the street (gully) to the stadium. Sarshar played in all of Falcon Risers Hyderabad’s matches in the inaugural season, impressing with his speed and variations.  “My favourite memory is my first wicket, with just the second delivery on my ISPL debut against Bangalore Strikers,” he reminisced. Sarshar is thrilled to be turning out for the Lions. “I watched the Singams closely last season, it is a professional unit with an excellent management. I am honoured to be a part of this franchise,” he said. “The ISPL is like a God-sent blessing for tennis ball cricket and a boost for players, gives hope that there is a future and a career in this sport,” he concluded.

Actors reveal their fascination for Wardrobe Collections!

Actors reveal their fascination for Wardrobe Collections!

Fashion is not just about clothing; it is an expression of personality, culture, and cherished memories. For many, certain pieces in their wardrobe hold a special place, telling unique stories that represent not only style but also sentiment. &TV actors Smita Sable (Dhaniya from Bheema), Geetanjali Mishra (Rajesh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai) talk about their special collection that beautifully reflect their love for both traditional and contemporary fashion. Smita Sable, aka Dhaniya from Bheema, shares, “My love for kurtis began during my college days, and it has only grown since then. I have a variety of kurtis in my wardrobe, catering to every occasion and mood. From chic, contemporary prints that exude modern elegance to those adorned with intricate hand embroidery highlighting India’s rich heritage, my collection is incredibly diverse. I particularly enjoy wearing flowy Anarkali kurtis during festive seasons, as they make me feel regal and festive. For casual outings or day-to-day wear, nothing beats the comfort of soft cotton kurtis in vibrant hues. Then, there are my boho-style kurtis with tassels and mirrors, which are perfect for adding a touch of playfulness to my look. Each piece in my collection reflects my personality and allows me to experiment with style while staying true to my love for tradition and comfort.”

Geetanjali Mishra, aka Rajesh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, says, “I am absolutely in
love with jhumkas, and they are an integral part of my jewellery collection. There is something so enchanting about how a jhumka dangles and sways, adding charm to even the simplest outfit. My collection is like a treasure filled with jhumkas of all styles and sizes. I have traditional jhumkas, perfect for festive occasions and weddings; meenakari jhumkas in vibrant colours that brighten up even plain outfits; and oxidized silver jhumkas that lend a contemporary, bohemian vibe. I also adore pearl-studded jhumkas for their sheer elegance, as they can elevate any look instantly. Every piece in my collection feels special, reflecting India’s rich culture and artistry. Wearing them not only makes me feel beautiful but also deeply connected to our traditions.” Shubhangi Atre, aka Angoori Bhabi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, adds, “Sarees are not just garments for me; they are an emotion and a connection to my roots. Ever since I was a little girl, I admired the way my mother draped her sarees with such elegance and grace. Today, my collection includes a variety of sarees, each with its own story. I cherish my Kanjeevaram sarees with intricate zari work, representing the rich culture of South India, and my Banarasi silk sarees, which are symbols of timeless grandeur and opulence. For casual outings, I adore my soft, flowy chiffon sarees. Among all my sarees, one holds an incredibly special place in my heart—a royal blue Kanjeevaram saree gifted by my mother 15 years ago. It is more than just an outfit; it is a bundle of emotions and memories that make me feel her warmth and love every time I wear it. Draping a saree makes me feel powerful, graceful, and deeply connected to our Indian traditions. It is a timeless attire that will always be my favourite. Recently, I have been fortunate to showcase my love for sarees in some of my photoshoots, where I got to experiment with a variety of drapes and styles. Whether it is a traditional look or a modern twist to saree draping, the shoot allowed me to express my deep admiration for this beautiful attire.”

Actor Saanand Verma reveals he had auditioned for Manmohan Tiwari’s role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai

Actor Saanand Verma reveals he had auditioned for

Manmohan Tiwari’s role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai

Saanand Verma has left audiences in splits as the quirky, eccentric, and hilariously unpredictable Anokhe Lal Saxena in &TV's cult comedy Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai. With his signature catchphrase “I Like It” and his unique antics, Saxena has become a fan-favourite character. In this heartfelt conversation, Saanand opens about playing the beloved character, his journey of resilience, and how his life changed after joining the show.

Anokhe Lal Saxena is such a unique character. What makes him stand out?

Saxena is a character like no other! His eccentricities, optimism, and unexpected behaviour make him memorable. Despite his oddities, there’s an innocence to him that connects with the audience. Saxena’s character is truly one of the most unique on Indian television. I’m confident there isn’t another character written like him who pets lizards, drinks their blood, takes bites from snakes, or enjoys getting electric shocks for pleasure! His quirks and eccentricities set him apart from anything audiences have seen before. Creating Saxena required a lot of thought and experimentation, but his bizarre yet lovable nature resonates deeply with viewers. It’s his unpredictable and unconventional traits that make him unforgettable and iconic in the world of Indian television.

How do you resonate with Saxena personally?

Saxena reflects my personality in many ways. Like him, I try to find humour and joy in every situation, no matter how challenging. His quirkiness and positive outlook resonate deeply with me. Playing Saxena feels natural as if I am bringing a part of myself to the screen.

What is the best thing that happened to you after joining Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai?

Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai is not just a show but a blessing for me that changed my life. It gave me immense recognition and an identity that people love. I remember shooting in Central London once, and out of nowhere, people came up to me saying, “Saxena Ji, I like it!” They started clicking pictures with me, and it was such a surreal experience. That moment reinforced how much this character and show mean to people globally. This show and Saxena are irreplaceable parts of my career as an actor, and I will always be grateful.

What’s the secret behind Saxena’s catchphrase “I Like It”?

(Laughs) The phrase was crafted to reflect Saxena’s quirky charm. It’s simple yet impactful, and the audience’s love for it has made it iconic. Interestingly, the story behind it is even more special. During the early days, Shashank Bali Ji, our director, casually said “I like it” while discussing the character. Somehow, Manoj Santoshi sir, our writer, noticed it and decided to weave it into Saxena’s personality. Since then, it has become the catchphrase that everyone associates with Anokhe Lal Saxena. People often stop me on the streets, requesting me to say it, and the overwhelming love and joy it brings are truly heartwarming.

You started your journey as a singer when you came to Mumbai. Can you share more about that and your connection with popular music directors?

Yes, that’s true! When I first came to Mumbai, my journey began with singing. I had the privilege of building good relationships with some legendary music directors like Raam Laxman and Nadeem Shravan. Music has always been close to my heart, and I still have a strong desire to be known as a singer. Singing brings me immense joy, and I hope to explore it further alongside my acting career. Perhaps someday, the world will also know me for my voice, just as they do for Saxena Ji’s quirks! During the audition were you sure about this role? Well, I never auditioned for this character. When the makers announced auditions for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, I applied for the role of Manmohan Tiwari. I prepared extensively, thinking I could bring my quirks to the character. However, during the audition, the creative team felt that my energy and spontaneity were better suited for the character of Anokhe Lal Saxena.

What does Saanand Verma’s day off look like?

I love spending time reading books, watching films, or indulging in long conversations with loved ones. Also, I observe people around me a lot which helps me recharge and bring fresh ideas to my work.

Any message for fans who adore Saxena?

Thank you for embracing Anokhe Lal Saxena with so much love and laughter. Your support motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and entertaining you. Keep watching Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, and remember, “I Like It!”
