Taking about the importance of yoga, Dr. Sharmila Nayak says "The ultimate goal of yoga is, to help an individual to transcend the self and attain peace and balance. It aims to achieve this through a series of physical and mental exercises. At the physical level, the methods comprise various yoga postures or 'asanas' that aim to keep the body healthy. When asked her about her plans on International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2019, she said "This day is no different for me. I practice yoga everyday and it should not be restricted to just one day. Yoga is a journey of mind & body which cannot be achieved in just a few sessions. However, It's such a great feeling when the entire world is inspired & has accepted importance of Yoga to remain healthy.
