Neha Joshi’s first Gudi Padwa after marriage

The celebration of Gudi Padwa marks the beginning of the Marathi New Year and is a joyful occasion for Maharashtrians. The festival takes place on the first day of the month of Chaitra with the belief that it brings prosperity and good luck into the house. Actress Neha Joshi, who plays Yashoda in &TV's Doosri Maa, hails from Nashik in Maharashtra. She is excited to celebrate the festival for the first time after her marriage. Neha Joshi talks about celebrations this year, "The festival of Gudi Padwa is celebrated with great pomp and show in Maharashtra. At the beginning of the day, each Maharashtrian household hoists a flag called Gudhi, a stick decorated with garlands, neem leaves, and a bright cloth. Gudi is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity and good fortune. It also represents new beginnings, hopes, and aspirations. Furthermore, people decorate their houses with rangolis, powder colours, and flowers. Since it will be my first Gudi Padwa after marriage, Omkar and I will visit my parent's house this year. Parents invite their newlywed daughters and their husbands to a meal on this day. Sweets like Puran Poli, Shrikhand, and dishes like Aambe Daal and Sunth Paak, are made today, and I have demanded everything from my mother (laughs). She is an amazing cook, and while I am staying in Jaipur for my show Doosri Maa, I miss Maa ke haath ka khana. I am also excited to get ready in traditional Maharashtrian attire, wearing a Nauvari saree, beautiful ornaments, and a garland of mogra flowers in my hair to complete my look.”

The actress adds, “In the evening, we used to move out of our homes to meet our relatives, have an outing, and most importantly, visit temples of various deities to seek divine blessings on the auspicious occasion. It is a traditional practice in Nashik to visit Kalaam temple, the deity of the town, on this day and pay obeisance. However, witnessing Sobha Yatra, a large-scale celebration where women elegantly dress, hold flags, and perform dhol-tashas, was a real treat. I wish everyone a happy Gudi Padwa. May this year bring you happiness, health, and wealth.”

                          Chaitra Navratri Ki Shubhkamnaye

The nine-day Chaitra Navratri, also known as Vasant Navratri, is observed in the month of Chaitra, dedicated to worshipping the nine avatars of Maa Durga. People observe fast and worship the Goddess during these days. Talking about embarking on a journey of self-reflection, worship and fasting, &TV artists share how the festival is celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm. These include Preity Sahay (Kamini) from Doosri Maa, Himani Shivpuri (Katori Amma) from Happu ki Ultan Paltan, and Rohitashv Gour (Manmohan Tiwari) from Bhabiji Ghar Par HaiPreity Sahay, essaying Kamini, says, I am an ardent believer in Goddess Durga. Every day I fold my hands in front of her and pray for the well-being of my people. During Chaitra Navratri, I fast for nine days. It is one of the most divine feelings. I learned about this festival from my grandmother, and since then, I have been following its rituals religiously. From a very young age, I started fasting and praying, which has become a part of my every yearly ritual. During those auspicious days, I consume kuttu atta, singhara atta, fresh fruit, milk, and dry fruits. However, Sabudana kheer is my all-time favourite, and I eat it at least once daily. I wish everyone a very happy Navratri.”

Himani Shivpuri essaying Katori Amma, says, “During Chaitra Navratri, many people fast in North and Western India. My mother and grandmother used to fast continuously for nine days because it’s a time to make progress in your spiritual practice and invoke the energy of the Mother Goddess or purify your body-mind. It used to be nine days of avoiding salt, lentils, onion, and garlic. Everything my mother cooked was Sattvic. Now I follow the same rituals and rules of Navratri my mother and grandmother taught me. In these years, I have realised that fasting is an effective therapy to cleanse our bodies. When the body is cleansed, the mind becomes calmer and more peaceful because of the deep connection between the body and mind. Also, one diya or lamp is lighted throughout the nine days, and I take utmost care that there is enough ghee or oil in the diya all the time. I wish everyone a happy Chaitra Navratri.” Rohitashv Gour essaying Manmohan Tiwari, shares, “During these nine days of Chaitra Navratri, I wake up early and do an early morning aarti after bathing. After my pooja, we offer bhog to Devi Maa in the form of dry fruits and nuts, milk, bananas, mishri or other fruits, and fresh flowers. My wife and I follow nine consecutive days of fasting, and the most significant thing in this religious fasting is our devotion and purity of heart to the deities. This fasting helps us pay gratitude to the Goddess, who epitomises power, determination, wisdom, strength, and purity. The food I consume during my fast is fresh fruits, dry fruits, and dishes made from flour like Kuttu, Singhara and Sabudana. Pray for yourself, your family, your friends, and this Navratri. Wishing you all a very Happy Navratri.”

Clean Shaven look makes a comeback: Post Vicky Kaushal, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan now goes clean shaven

The men in B-Town have always played a big part in setting facial hair trends. In the late 80s and 90s, actors like Anil Kapoor proudly flaunted thick moustaches. A few years later, the norm was to be clean shaven, with Bollywood actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan playing the boy next door.  And 2023 seems to have brought back the clean-shaven trend.

Gone are the days when those thick beards were popular and loved.

The big stars of Bollywood are letting go of their facial hair and sporting clean shaven looks these days for events, appearances as well as for their films.

And believe it or not, we are loving it! After all, a classic chic look never goes out of style.
