Sports Authority of India Mumbai Celebrates World Bicycle Day 2026 with Special Edition of ‘Sundays on Cycle’; Over 2,000 Cyclists Participate
Mumbai, June 7, 2026: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre Mumbai, under the Fit India Movement, successfully organized the 77th edition of “Sundays on Cycle” as a special celebration of World Bicycle Day 2026 at the iconic Worli Promenade on Mumbai’s Coastal Road. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 2,000 cyclists, fitness enthusiasts, and citizens from across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The event was graced by Smt. Amruta Fadnavis as the Chief Guest, while renowned actor Shri Jackie Shroff, actor Shri Taha Shah Badussha, and fitness influencer Ms. Nivedita Sreyansh attended as Guests of Honour. Shri Pandurang Chate (IRS), Regional Director, SAI Regional Centre Mumbai, was also present on the occasion.Addressing the gathering, Smt. Amruta Fadnavis lauded the efforts of all cyclists and participants for embracing cycling as a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transport and fitness activity. She appreciated the growing cycling culture in Mumbai and highlighted how such initiatives contribute towards environmental conservation while promoting physical and mental well-being. She also commended the Fit India Movement for creating platforms that inspire citizens to lead healthier lives and actively contribute towards building a fitter nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Taha Shah Badussha congratulated the young participants and cycling enthusiasts for their commitment towards fitness. Encouraging everyone to adopt regular physical activity, he reiterated the Fit India message of “Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”, urging citizens to dedicate at least thirty minutes every day towards their health and well-being.
Renowned actor Shri Jackie Shroff highlighted the strong connection between cycling, fitness, and environmental responsibility. He encouraged participants to embrace cycling as a way of life and actively support tree plantation and environmental conservation efforts, reinforcing the importance of sustainable living for future generations.
The programme featured a vibrant 3-kilometre cycling rally along Mumbai’s Coastal Road, symbolizing the collective commitment towards fitness, health, and sustainable mobility.
The event witnessed overwhelming enthusiasm from participants of all age groups, reflecting the growing popularity of cycling as a means of fitness, recreation, and environmental responsibility. The celebration successfully reinforced the objectives of the Fit India Movement and conveyed the message of making fitness an integral part of everyday life.
The event received tremendous support from the cycling fraternity, with more than 40 cycling communities and clubs from across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region coming together to participate in and promote the ride. Their enthusiastic involvement highlighted the growing cycling movement in the region and demonstrated the collective commitment of the cycling community towards fitness, sustainable mobility, and environmental responsibility under the FIT India Movement.
