·         ‘One Earth, An IIJS Initiative’ Tree Plantation Drive: Over 1 lakh trees planted

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India’s apex trade body sponsored by the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry, reinforces Commitment to Sustainability with Green Practices at its flagship India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) exhibitions --- one of the world’s top 2 B2B Trade shows in the gem & jewellery sector.

With the theme of this year’s Environment Day focusing on “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience,” GJEPC proudly highlights how its events actively contribute to the betterment of the planet by reducing their carbon footprint and promoting a greener tomorrow.

Commenting on the initiatives, Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC, said, “Sustainability is no longer a choice—it’s a responsibility. At GJEPC, we are committed to integrating sustainability into the DNA of all our exhibitions. Our goal is to inspire the industry to adopt greener practices and do our part for the planet. We partner with eco-conscious vendors. We promote long-term green practices among stakeholders. We continually measure and offset our carbon footprint for the betterment of the planet by reducing their carbon footprint and promoting a greener tomorrow.”

GJEPC’s IIJS, India’s premier jewellery exhibition platform, has been at the forefront of integrating green practices into all aspects of event planning and execution. From modular and reusable stalls to green energy and digital solutions, GJEPC is setting benchmarks in sustainable event management.

Key sustainability measures implemented at IIJS exhibitions include:

  • Modular & Reusable Exhibition Stalls: Built using eco-friendly materials, these reduce construction waste and carbon emissions.
  • 100% Renewable Energy Usage: The entire event is powered by green energy sources, significantly reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
  • ‘One Earth, An IIJS Initiative’ Tree Plantation Drive: Over 1 lakh trees have been planted, with one tree planted for every visitor who registers for IIJS.
  • Eco-Friendly Branding: Fabric banners and non-toxic inks replace traditional PVC flexes, minimizing environmental harm.
  • Digital Badges: Use of digital badges and face recognition systems replaces plastic-based badges, increasing both sustainability and security.
  • Reusable Show Bags and Cutlery: Promoting a zero-waste approach in promotional material and cafeteria services.
  • Biodegradable Water Bottles: Significantly curbing plastic waste during the event.
  • Eco-Conscious Transport: Transitioning to electric buses and encouraging metro travel to reduce carbon emissions from commuting.
  • Sustainable Special Structures: Built with environmentally friendly, reusable materials.
  • Stakeholder Education: Awareness and education efforts on sustainable practices form a core part of the exhibition experience.

Walking the Talk on Sustainability: GJEPC celebrates World Environment Day with Action, Not Just Awareness. GJEPC reaffirms its steadfast commitment to sustainability through a wide range of eco-conscious initiatives.

As GJEPC continues to innovate and lead by example, it encourages stakeholders across the gem and jewellery industry to embrace sustainable practices and become active participants in protecting the environment.
