Vkaao brings  Bulbul Can Sing  exclusively to PVR Cinemas across India on September 27, 2019

26th September, 2019 in Mumbai- After screening at 40 film festivals and receiving 13 awards from across the globe, Rima Das' "Bulbul Can Sing" releases in India.

"When I was shooting Village Rockstars, I knew I wanted to explore teenage feelings and thoughts in my next film. It's surprising how very few films depict teenage stories in an authentic way, particularly in India. That's when I began the journey of exploring the story for Bulbul Can Sing."

“The film was screened at prestigious film festivals across the world and India. The response has been overwhelming! It's thrilling to see the film is running to packed houses in Assam. I am hopeful people across India will give us the same love,” adds Rima Das.

Just last month the film was awarded the National Film Award for the Best Assamese Film. It was a delightful moment when Shahrukh Khan broke this news to Rima Das while presenting Bulbul Can Sing at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, with the audience cheering on.

"Bulbul Can Sing" has won- Mumbai International Film Festival, 2018 Golden Gateway: India Gold for Best Feature Film, Singapore International Film Festival, 2018 Best Performance - Asian Feature Film Manoranjan Das for Suman, Berlin International Film festival, 2018 Special Mention Award, Dublin International Film Festival, 2019: Best Director Rima Das, Someone to Watch Award at Cleveland International Film Festival, 2019, Special Mention Award at Osakka Asian Film Festival, 2019, Prag Cine Awards 2019 - Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Actor (Female), Best Actor (Male), Best Indie Film - Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2019, Best Assamese Film - National Film Awards 2019

Synopsis of the film- In the atmospheric light of dusk and dawn, Rima Das portrays the lives  of three friends on the threshold of adulthood. Poetic sensuality contrasts with authentic scenes of everyday life in their Indian village, where care-free youthfulness comes face to face with merciless reality.

The story‘s protagonist is Bulbul, whose voice fails her when she has to sing in front of people. Fear of failure and self-doubt also plague the fragile Bonny, and Suman, who does not fulfil the traditional male image. The experience of first love puts the three teenagers under the pressure of high expectations and strict moral codes. The relationship between love and suffering demands a lot of strength. Bulbul the nightingale begins to sing.

Press Release - The fully electric XC40 SUV - Volvo's first electric car and one of the safest on the road

The fully electric XC40 SUV – Volvo’s first electric car and one of the safest on the road

Sep 25, 2019 ID: 257570

Mumbai 26th Sept 2019 The advance of electric cars constitutes the biggest change in the history of the automobile. For the first time in over a century, cars move without a petrol or diesel engine in the engine bay and have a battery in the floor, changing the car at its core.

With the introduction of the forthcoming fully electric Volvo XC40 SUV next month, Volvo Cars is not just launching its first fully electric car – in true Volvo tradition, it is also introducing one of the safest cars on the road, despite a fresh set of challenges presented by the absence of an internal combustion engine.

“Regardless of what drives a car forward, be it an electric machine or combustion engine, a Volvo must be safe,” says Malin Ekholm, head of safety at Volvo Cars. “The fully electric XC40 will be one of the safest cars we have ever built.”

While building on the excellent safety standards of the original XC40, Volvo Cars safety engineers had to completely redesign and reinforce the frontal structure to deal with the absence of an engine, meet Volvo Cars’ high safety requirements and help keep occupants as safe as in any other Volvo.

“The fundamentals around safety are the same for this car as for any other Volvo. People are inside, and the car needs to be designed to be safe for them,” says Malin Ekholm.

To help keep passengers safe and the battery intact in the event of a collision, Volvo Cars also developed a new and unique safety structure for passengers and battery alike in the XC40. The battery is protected by a safety cage which consists of a frame of extruded aluminum and has been embedded in the middle of the car’s body structure, creating a built-in crumple zone around the battery.

The battery’s placement in the floor of the car also has the benefit of lowering the center of gravity of the car, for better protection against roll-overs.

Meanwhile, the car’s body structure has not just been reinforced in the front, but also at the rear. Here, the electric powertrain has been integrated in the body structure to realise a better distribution of collision forces away from the cabin and reduce the strain on people inside the car.

In terms of active safety systems, the battery-powered XC40 also introduces new technology. It is the first Volvo model equipped with a new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform with software developed by Zenuity, the joint venture company owned by Volvo Cars and Veoneer.

The new ADAS platform is a modern, scalable active safety system that consists of an array of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors. Because of its scalable nature it can easily be developed further and lays the foundation for the future introduction of autonomous drive technology.

Volvo Cars will reveal more details about the fully electric XC40 in the coming weeks, before it will be first shown to the public on October 16.

Under its new company purpose, Volvo Cars aims to provide customers with the Freedom to Move in a personal, sustainable and safe way. By then, it also expects one-third of its cars sold to be autonomous.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF "MALAD WEST SARBOJANIN DURGOTSAV 2019" ORGANISED BY MAITREE CULTURAL ASSOCIATION

The announcement saw the presence of Kaushiki Mitra, Viusha Pandey, Somma Ghosh, Rupa Roy, Anuradha Dutt, Mrinalini Dutt, Bishakha Chatterjee, Sharvani Bhattacharya, Minakshi Kawal, Soma Pandey.

Malad West Sarbojanin Durgotsav 2019 organized by Maitree Cultural Association welcomes each & everyone with an open arm to seek the blessings of Maa.

The 5 days include celebration from Shasti to Bijoya Dashami along with many exciting activities like sit down Bhog, Anandamela - a food pop up where home chefs will put up tables, the cultural program organized by and for the underprivileged kids, Sindur Khela, will be part of the grand 5 days Durga Utsav.

The theme of the 6th year of Durga Puja is- Roots & Wings - There are two lasting bequests we give children- One is roots and the other is Wings. Maitree Cultural Association has its mission to provide Roots to the generation next of the organization so that they grow into men and women with a sense of belonging to an extended family providing support to one another, and learning value systems that come about from sharing and caring as part of a community which does things together - Wings to fly and scale new heights in all aspects.

Maa's murti is 15 ft tall. This is one of the “Roots” parts… it is traditional Ek Chala which literally translates to ‘under one roof’.... the backdrop is unbroken and common from Ganesh to Kartik with Laxmi, Saraswati and Maa Durga in between. The idols are adorned in the very traditional Daaker Shaaj wherein the attire and ornaments and mukutis crafted out of the natural fiber, shola (Indian cork) into which metal embellishments and decorations are added.

The pandal is divided into 2 sections- the cultural & bhog area and the Devi mandap. The lavishly decorated Devi Mandap is the “Wings”- more contemporary, airy, well illuminated to appear welcoming. A place where people can hang out and converse without being overpowered by décor. It is designed to be people friendly with an ambiance that exudes warmth.

The organisers take pride that thousands throng the puja pandal to partake in the bhog. Three days of unmatched, unflinching hospitality and service, one can vouch that the hospitality matches that of a wedding feast in terms of service and food.

While a couple of grownups keep an eye, the service is the domain of Maitree’s Youth Wing members, some of those who serve are as young as 6…and they do it well, fully in coordination with those just a little older to them. In addition, the puja team is led by ladies with the gentlemen playing a very supportive role.

When asked, if the is associated with a noble cause, Shyamashish Bhattacharya (President of the Organization),  Rupa Roy (General Secretary of the Organization) and Jayanta Chatterjee (Vice President) said "Yes, of course…and we do this throughout the year and not just as flavour of the season. We’ve distributed grains, diapers, medicines, toilette items to the inmates at Assisi Bhavan, the children of Athurta Foundation are constant beneficiaries from things they need (shoes, clothes, school bags, books) to what they want (soft toys, games, treats) they get them all. In fact, they’ll be the ones inaugurating the Utsav. We planted plenty of trees in collaboration with the BMC during the rains this year. The Social Outreach Program is continuous and we have a calendar full of such events.”
