GVK CSIA’s New ATC Tower Inaugurated
India’s tallest ATC Tower is the new icon of Mumbai’s landscape
New ATC Tower to substantially enhance efficiency and safety at CSIA

In a significant development, the New ATC Tower at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) was jointly inaugurated by Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and ShriAjit Singh, Hon'ble Union Minister for Civil Aviation, in the presence of Shri Mohammed Arif (Naseem) Khan, Hon’ble Minister of Textile, Minority Development & Guardian Minister (Mumbai Suburban), Govt of Maharashtra; Shri Suresh Shetty, Hon’ble Minister of Public Health & Family Welfare and Protocol, Govt. of Maharashtra; Shri Kripashankar Singh, Hon’ble MLA; Shri Krishna Hegde, Hon’ble MLA; Shri JK Banthia, Chief Secretary, Govt of Maharashtra and Dr GVK Reddy, Executive Chairman, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd; Shri V P Agarwal, Chairman, Airport Authority of India; Shri G V Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd; Shri V Somasundaram, Member (ANS), Airport Authority of India and Shri Krishna Ram Bhopal, Director, GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd., here today.

India’s tallest ATC Tower with a height of 83.8 meter is built within an area of 2,800 square meter at CSIA. The location and the height of the New ATC Tower will enable the tower controllers to have unobstructed view of the entire operational area, which will help in optimizing air traffic separation and increase the traffic handling capacity at CSIA.

The New ATC Tower will be equipped with the latest technology including Electronic Flight Strips which will soften the work load of the Tower Controller, enhance safety and overall capacity of the airport.

Equipped to handle current and future air traffic movements at the GVK CSIA airport, the state-of-the-art New ATC Tower coupled with the air side up gradation (addition of new taxiways and rapid-exit taxiways)will help reduce the Runway Occupancy Time (ROT) and will further enhance efficiency levels and increase Air Traffic Movements per hour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. GVK Reddy, Executive Chairman, GVK Mumbai International Airport Pvt. In pursuit of  the most spectacular design for  the New ATC Tower, GVK CSIA awarded the iconic design & architecture project to Hong Kong based renowned architectural design firm HOK and international engineering design firm ARUP following a global Architectural & Engineering design competition. International lighting consultant SPEIRS & MAJORS were mandated for the innovatively designed lighting of the tower to bring out the sculptural qualities of the New ATC Tower.

The New ATC Tower is not only an iconic landmark for the city of Mumbai,also this state-of-the-art tower will help enhance the safety, efficiency and capacity of CSIA, as well.
