Legendary Sharmila Tagore and National Award Winner Rituparna Sengupta Come Together On-Screen for the First Time Ever

The city of dreams witnessed a magical evening as the star-studded premiere of the much-anticipated film “Puratawn” unfolded in grand style. The premiere marked a historic cinematic moment with two powerhouse performers — the legendary Sharmila Tagore and National Award-winning actress Rituparna Sengupta — sharing the screen for the very first time.

“Puratawn,” written and directed by Suman Ghosh and produced by Rituparna Sengupta, captured the audience with its compelling narrative. It explores how the lives of three individuals—played by Sharmila Tagore, Rituparna Sengupta, and Indraneil Sengupta—undergo a profound transformation when they are unexpectedly forced to confront the shadows of their past.

Speaking at the event, Rituparna Sengupta shared, “Producing and acting in Puratawn has been one of the most enriching experiences of my career. This film is a mirror into the human soul, exploring themes of memory, regret, and redemption. Sharing screen space with Sharmila ji was a moment of immense emotional significance for me. She has been an inspiration to generations of actors, including myself. To work alongside her, to learn from her grace, poise, and incredible depth as an actor, was both humbling and transformative. Puratawn is a labour of love, and I feel truly blessed to have been part of something so intimate, so timeless”
